This is THE BORDER issue for Republicans in 2028. If they don't massively reverse the H1-B and alphabet soup of other Visa programs abuse from their corporate donors, they shouldn't be surprised if the are voted out of office. Many of the non-H1-B programs could be terminated by Executive Action. The fact that they haven't shows how captured the Republicans are by Corporate priorities.
J.D.Vance gave a speech...right before a midterm election. Will it have any more effect than Senators Grassley and Durbin's letter? It would mean going against major contributors.
Need to change all work visa programs and make them merit based. A simple IQ test would be more than enough, no degree needed. 130 and above ok. The company can train them or they can go to work in any field they want. Put them on the road to immigrate.
Currently a bogus credential from some made up company is all that is needed and we certainly aren't getting the best and the brightest. At that level of cognitive ability they'd have few US competitors.
I don't care about speaking ability. Smart people pick up language easily. Maybe a basic civics and cultural awareness class too, no anti American political types.
