I always recommend that refugees fleeing big blue cities for friendlier places join the volunteer fire department (if physically able). Pasadena may be the largest but volunteer departments are the norm in rural areas. They should also join a church of their choice, some local charities or service organizations and the local gun club. Embed in the community and you won't be an outsider if (when?) the SHTF.
