Bah. Voting methodology neither prevents nor causes various democratic or republican (notice lower case) if you will,malfunctions that bedevil us and other countries. What causes the problems is polities that are too large and divided to be coherent. I could easily come up with a list of FPTP atrocities but that would undermine my own point which is that it doesn't matter.

There was no contest. In my district we have a very lopsided electorate, Democrats win. Republicans hardly run anymore. In my county Republicans always win, most of the positions were unopposed and the platform put out by our Democratic Central Committee was somewhere left of DSA in a county of feedlots and oil fields.
Ranked choice would give options. People register unaffiliated here for a reason, independent voters are willing to cross party lines if they see a better option. Ranked choice and open primaries.
