This is not a new idea. I remember discussions about this when my oldest was in day care. He’s in his 30s now. It is fair that child care subsidies be extended to those who care for their own children in lieu of an outside job. Frankly, it’s about time for stay-at-home parents to be compensated for the very valuable work they do. The scheme would probably have to be on a per-child basis, but we’d want to watch for unintended incentives. It is a good idea.
It is funny that one of the 70's feminist demands was that women's economic contribution from staying at home be recognized. 50 years later, now that Reps are talking about actually doing it, the feminists are screaming that it's unfair and demeaning.

You missed the key word: “underfunded”. She’s not opposed to the idea, just the mechanism proposed to make it happen. Not the what, the how. You misinterpret her comments. Deliberately?
The comments from Jonah Goldberg are quite interesting considering I recently watched him talk on his podcast about how he had a nanny for much of his childhood. And I though his slavish devotion to 'free trade' and 'open markets' was his worst political position.
We had decided to have my wife quite her job the week before on the grounds she doesnt really make enough to justify keeping it, if this is 9k a kid it will cover two thirds of her prior income working 3 days a week to stay home lol, would be pretty incredible luck

Since this is a pet project of JD, he of multiple names, religions, and political ideologies, it's hard to know how serious it is. Especially since there is no new funding, just a shift in who qualifies. It seems harmless enough, though likely inconsequential overall, if the only goal is to shift money from low income single working parents to married stay at home parents.
But I can't help but wonder if fellow humans of Haitian extraction will qualify?
As an aside, I laughed out loud when Oren claimed that a deficit reduction plan "continues to gain traction with Republicans". Really? Ask the bond market. Apparently he's unaware that his "new" right has been in charge for over a decade, currently controls the entirety of the federal government, again, yet only has record setting debt accumulation to show for it...Don is on track to break the all time record he set in his first term. There has been zero effort to tell voters the truth Oren acknowledges, that we need to raise taxes and cut benefits if we're serious about debt reduction.
Don's taco tariffs get the most attention, but they're not long term policy, just an ever changing tool for his id driven entertainment and personal enrichment. Hence the unwillingness to make them permanent via legislation. The revealed preference of the "new" right/MAGA is the disastrous BBB, by far the most consequential tax and fiscal policy they have actually enshrined in law in term two.
The Bush Tax Cuts were more irresponsible…boomers didn’t begin turning age 65 until 2011 and so we should have been running surpluses up through 2010 but the last surplus was 2001 the year before Bush Tax Cuts went into effect. 3% deficit ratio is realistic and Trump inherited that in 2017 and then his tax cuts started increasing the deficit ratio to over 4% even before Covid.
The sooner Europe implodes, the better. They have gone from parasites to outright enemies. They are seeking New World footholds via the globalists in Canada. When Europe fails, Canada will look like Cuba after the fall of the Soviet Union.
MAGA has won this battle Richard, relax. Don has successfully swapped our long time democratic allies for new ones-Russia, El Salvador, Venezuela, and several small African nations who we pay to take our deported, brown, non-criminal neighbors. Alas, if we can just get Russia to stop assisting Iran in targeting our troops in MAGA's Middle East war...the war Don seems to have no allies in.
