Just another story about how you dont deserve the american dream because you dont work hard enough. I grew up in the 80s and watched my grandparents afford a good life through my grandfathers work at a steel plant working 40 hour weeks. Fast forward to today both me and my wife average 50 hour weeks, both as accomplished managers and live paycheck to paycheck. If wages kept up with production, we too would be able to afford the american dream. So peddle your tired thoughts about bootstrap pulling to someone else
The big missed opportunity was not transitioning to universal health care in the 1970s. So during the Reagan Recovery the large manufacturers chose to pay overtime instead of hiring additional workers that came with new benefits. The next big missed opportunity was not transitioning to universal health care in the 1990s as the China Shock undermined manufacturing jobs in America and middle aged families ended up with lower wages and no benefits during the Bush Recovery. So in the 2000s with GDP growth over 3% fewer Americans had health insurance than in 2000 even before the Global Financial Crisis.
