The cake is baked for lack of confidence not only in elections but all institutions. Your yesterday's column about reconciliation (in an accounting sense) is what is needed to start to restore confidence. Even so, it is a long process.

The quote often attributed to Stalin about the vote counters are what matters was actually from Boss Tweed and is as American as apple pie. There are real concerns about the integrity of the process. The French used to do vote by mail but abolished it as prone to fraud.

I might suggest another approach to “starting to restore confidence”. Ask the leader of the “new” right to acknowledge his insurrection, and to stop the incessant lying that continues to this day. He is far and away the leader vector of misinformation. Even his crack, er, cracked legal team of Rudy G, Sidney Powell, John Eastman et al couldn’t confirm the loony conspiracies Don concocted when they were forced to submit actual evidence in a real court of law. But most of them managed to get disbarred or otherwise disciplined by the courts or the legal profession. Look em up:)

Why do you support a president that is overseeing $2 trillion deficits and 2% GDP growth?? So when Bush stole the 2000 election I wouldn’t really have cared had he not destroyed the economy and blown up the deficit while selling us out to China and lying us into asinine wars.

Don't blame the selling-out of the American worker to China on only George W. Bush. What started out with good intentions in 1972, didn't work out as intended and that was clear in June of 1989 when the Tiannaman Square massacre occurred. Every elected and appointed official that continued to support Globalization after the massacre is a traitor to the United States and it's workers. That includes both Democrats, Republicans, and Independents and every President since 1989 except Donald Trump.

How low T of the authors. At least have the guts to say “his” name. He’s obviously the leading vector of misinformation regarding election integrity. He’s that guy who has convinced 70% of my former party that his loony conspiracy theories are true in spite of his repeated losses in court for lack of evidence. Same guy who fomented an insurrection leading to the first non-peaceful transfer of power in our nation’s history. The guy who summoned MAGA-hatted thugs to beat cops with Confederate flagpoles. It seems like he might merit a mention in a serious piece on election integrity?

DC operatives like these two gents, R elected officials, party drones, think tank hangers on, they’re all too timid to even utter Don’s name. It’s like he’s Voldemort, he who shall not be named. If I don’t actually say his name, maybe I can stay on the team, get more contracts, and still get invited to the cool kid parties. It tells you all you need to know about their seriousness, and their willingness to tell the truth. As does the false equivalency when the operatives in turn “call out” D’s for telling the truth. Of course D’s would warn about Don “cheating” and “stealing the election”, he’s already done it once. We watched it on TV, and we listened to R’s from throughout the country testify to his actions. At least a few souls in my former party still think character counts.

One day, we’ll all have to explain to our grandchildren which side we were on when this aging, corrupt, incoherent, narcissistic, imbecile rode through town. If only we could be a fly on all the walls to hear today’s apologists explain how hard they worked to oppose him:)

Good luck America.

I cannot have any confidence in the results of any election that uses mail-in ballots. There is absolutely no way to establish a auditable chain of custody. In-person voting of eligible voters only (with exceptions for active duty military) with photo ID and paper ballots is the only secure method of conducting elections. If it can't be audited, no one should have confidence in the results.

Remember when Bush stole the 2000 election and then failed to prevent 9/11 and then lied us into Iraq while selling us out to China and running the American economy into the ground?? That was weird, right??

Excellent evidence based commentary. In Oregon this is a huge problem, getting Republicans who want to end vote by mail, to vote by mail to regain the power to end vote by mail. Some tried a ballot measure, got less than half of the required signatures, gave up that effort, but continue to fan flames of apathy and distrust in Oregon elections.

They are not rigged. They are fake.

Understand that what is happening to us, and what is being done to us, are not the same thing is something most people cannot grasp.

Understanding that elections are fake (not rigged) is a good place to start.

It’s somewhat analogous to the NFL. It’s not rigged. But it is scripted.

But why does Trump have to be so mediocre if the Deep State is trying to keep him from being president?? Why does Trump keep getting manipulated by people like Netanyahu and McMaster if he so dangerous to the Military Industrial Complex?? Trump’s deficit is going to be $2 trillion dollars and the middle class is getting stiffed while the stock market booms.

Do you own mutual funds or ETFs in a brokerage account or in an IRA or 401(k)? If not, why not? That's how you build wealth.

Sad that you believe this. While one could argue that much of the news is fake, the hype is manufactured, and talking points are fabricated, there is little to any evidence that any meaningful cheating strategy has impacted election results. Oregon has paper ballots, that can be audited, hand counted, and election observers watch the process, but many Oregonians believe without evidence the system is full of fraud. Democrats want Republicans in blue states to keep thinking its rigged, and Democrats in red states make some of the same crazy claims when they lose.
